Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
