Pickup Craps – Pointers and Tactics: The Background of Craps
November 15th, 2022 by Araceli

Be brilliant, play cunning, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
