Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win.
