May 1st, 2020 by Araceli

Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps come about from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
