Be brilliant, play smart, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French headed south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
