Be smart, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
