Be brilliant, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the country. Many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he invented the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
