Learn to Play Craps – Tips and Strategies: The Past of Craps
October 9th, 2015 by Araceli

Be brilliant, play clever, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
