Be clever, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
